The Consultation

In the first instance, it is important for ladies wishing to have Bladder Botox Injections to have a consultation with our urologist, Mr Duncan Harriss. He will ask you questions about your bladder condition, general lifestyle (eg. caffeine intake), general health and previous treatments. The nurse will help him to do a brief external examination to rule out any physical problems eg. vaginal prolapse. We also need to make sure that you are emptying your bladder completely.

After this initial assessment, it may be appropriate to offer Bladder Botox Injections there and then. Sometimes, the Bladder Botox Injections need to be delayed until after other tests are arranged.

Bladder Botox Procedure

The Bladder Botox Injection is very simple: A small tube is passed into the bladder (flexible cystoscope). This is a similar sensation to having a catheter inserted into the bladder. The consultant can then inspect the inside of the bladder and make sure it is healthy (to exclude any serious problems). The Botox is injected through the scope into different parts of the bladder muscle with a very fine needle which makes it painless. The whole process takes approximately 5 minutes.

Typically, 70% of woman regain control of their bladder after 1 session.
